The Ripple Table
The Ripple was a design for a table whose inspiration came from the music of Navras; better known as the Matrix Soundtrack. If you listen to Navras, you'll notice it has a lot of dramatic build-up and tension, similar to intensity of a storm before it hits. The imagery of storms, rain, and ripples in a puddle is where this table derives its form. Each cured board represents another ripple in the water. What's innovative about this design is its simplicity in assembly and packaging. The table is constructed simply by adding metal aluminum rods and piercing them through assigned holes in the boards. The structure features of the curves are what keeps the table from collapsing. There 3 identical modules that can be built to support the table, all of which are very simple by means of construction. The only speed bump encountered in this project was the curved plywood. There wasn't a manufacturer that had the specifications of curved plywood that I needed, so I improvised by building a mold and curving the plywood myself.
