Greengear
Greengear was an idea for a company whose primary purpose was to serve the environment by cutting down the population of the invasive plant species known as tree of heaven, or, more commonly, Chinese sumac. How we did so was we established connections with the Boy Scouts of America and convinced them that having boy scouts do trail clearings and plant identification of these plants and sending what was gathered to us would help satisfy eagle scout prerequisites. Upon receiving the trees, the branches are cut in half and pith, which is a spongy substance in the center, is extracted. We would then grind up the pith in a blender, and turn into soft and squishy bioplastic.
Once we had our material, we had to decide who we would market to and how. Ultimately, we decided to market it towards casual bikers. This is owing to the fact many bikers are often pretty outdoorsy and care deeply about the environment. After deciding who to market it to, we made a mold for bike seat cushion and filled it with our bioplastic. The results were satisfactory.
In terms of promotion, we had a contact lined up who was willing and eager to help us advertise our product at a seasonal biking festival in Staunton, VA.
